Holly Hill cops: 48-year-old woman reported missing turns up at New Smyrna Beach church feeding program
Carol Jean PaceCarol Jean Pace, the Holly Hill woman reported missing since April 18, was found safe Wednesday at a church in New Smyrna Beach that feeds the needy, police said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A 48-year-old woman considered endangered The Holly Hill Police Department reports that Carol Jean Pace, who was reported missing seven days earlier was spotted Wednesday during the serving of a hot meals program for the needy at the First United Methodist Church Hot Meals Program here in New Smyrna Beach.

"The church reports that they recognized Ms. Pace from media reports and contacted the Holly Hill Police Department," Holly Hill Police Chief Mark Barker said in a press release to Central Florida media outlets, including Headline Surfer, the New Smyrna Beach-based 24/7 Internet newspaper.

New Smyrna Beach police officers assisted in contacting Pace and confirmed that she was safe.

"Ms. Pace indicated to officers that she was not happy with her living situation and simply left on April 13th," Barker said.

Holly Hill cops: Mentally challenged woman, 48, missing

HOLLY HILL -- Police are seeking the public's help in locating Carol Jean Pace, 48, who was reported missing from 522 Ridgewood Ave., Apt. No. 5, in Holly Hill on April 18, 2012.

"According to Ms. Pace's associates, she has not been seen at that location since April 13," Holly Hill Police Chief Mark Barker said.  "Ms. Pace is considered mentally challenged and may be in danger of exploitation. At the time of her disappearance she was depressed over the recent death of her boyfriend."

Those lose to her told police that she left behind all of her clothing, medication, and personal belongings when she left the apartment, Barker said, adding cops were told she has no known living relatives in the area.

Former longtime Holly Hill mayor Don Wiggins dies at 80; services held Wednesday

HOLLY HILL -- Bellman Donald Wiggins, Holly Hill's former longtime mayor who held the post during parts of three decades, died Saturday with family members at his bedside at Oceanside Hospice Care Center in Ormond Beach, losing a longtime battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.

Services were held Wednesday at The Lighthouse Church of Christ in Holly Hill. Wiggins is survived by his wife, Shirley; three sons, four brothers, two sisters and six grandchildren. 

The Georgia native, who went by Don Wiggins, moved here in 1950, and later managed the A&P grocery store before launching his own chain. He was first elected to the city commission in 1966 and then mayor in 1970 for two terms before gaining the top post again in 1981 and serving another 10 years.

When he lost a re-election bid in 1991, Wiggins didn't give up; instead moving up politically by winning election for the dist. 4 Volusia County Council seat where her served a full term.
