NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Some guy named Robert Burns bumped into me today Saturday afternoon on the North Causeway before the New Smyrna Beach Christmas Parade and introduced himself. He told me was hosting a new web site. He added that NSBNews.net only posts the bad news. Seriously? I took offense at that.

During this Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I want to take the time to let you know what i am thankful for. First and foremost, I'm thankful for my husband who puts up with my cattitude and kitty comings and goings at all hours, any day, any time.

I have been saying all summer that I have noticed a lot of black and white cats reported missing via flyers and Craigs List, etc. And in mid-October, two cats were found drowned in a crate in a retention pond in Port Orange.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Sunday, Oct. 16, Is National Feral Cat Day, but Volusia County is extending it to the whole month of October. Halifax Humane Society is offering FREE cat spays and neuters along with shots every friday in October. Yes, FREE! Now there is no excuse for not spaying or neutering you cat.

The day before I'm due to leave town I get a frantic call from a woman about a cat.(An everyday occurrence for me) She said a neighbor moved and left behind this beautiful pure white cat with one blue eye and one green eye. As it turned out, that neighbor did no good for the poor feline.

The height of kittens season is just around the corner for those of us that live in Volusia County and that means pregnant cats are everywhere. Male cats are out and about traveling longer distances to impregnate as many females as they can.

Did you know that each city in our county and some individual cites pay upwards of $90 in your taxes per feral cat to put them to sleep? We pay to kill cats...and dogs! That does not include police and animal control time and work. And not just the feral ones. The feral ones just get the needle sooner.

I contemplated calling this blog "The Wild Life," among other things. My last name is only the beginning.
