EDGREWATER -- Have you had to renew your driver’s license lately? If not beware.

EDGEWATER -- To say I was stunned when I heard about the tragedy in Colorado is an understatement. You would think that after all that has happened in recent years these things would not shock us so when they happen.

I received my absentee ballot today and it is in both English and Spanish. It raises my hackles to see that on my so-called American ballot. As all of you who read my blog know, I am against anything, but English being used in this country for road signs, voting ballots or anything else including in Walmart on the signs there. You want to live in and be American, then learn the language.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- I didn’t know Peter Mallory well, but I did know of the relationship between him and Henry Frederick. The two of them gave this community a voice with NSBNEWS.net and for that that we are all thankful.

 Lest we forget the sacrifices it took to gain and retain our free country read below my comments. Then remember when voting that we need politicians who believe in those same original freedoms fought for so valiantly lo those many years ago.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Congratulations to the graduating class of New Smyrna Beach High School. Seeing that the number of graduates totaled 392 reminded me of my own graduation in 1964. At that time the old high school on the North Causeway in New Smyrna Beach was brand new and our class consisted of 66 pupils. Our ceremony was at the school itself and we with our family and friends all fit without a problem.

EDGEWATER -- The decision to change the FCAT scores to accommodate students who cannot pass the test is just wrong.

EDGEWATER -- A friend forwarded a request from a military friend of hers in Afghanistan telling her they were hit really hard and lost all their personal things. He said they needed towels, razors, and anything personal anyone would send to them. Turns out there are 100 people in his company who lost their stuff.

EDGEWATER -- When I heard about Dick Clark’s passing this morning, I felt as if I had lost a family member. He had been very much a part of my life since American Bandstand so long ago.

EDGEWATER -- A sense of relief came over me with the arrest of George Zimmerman on the charge of second-degree murder in the Sanford shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. As much as the whole state of Florida is a tinderbox of dryness prone to fire, I was more and more feeling that this situation was also a tinderbox that was on the verge of exploding into violence.
