ORLANDO -- The Orlando Sentinel has endorsed the candidacy of Democrat and Volusia County Chair Frank Bruno for the dist. 8 state senate seat over Republican State Rep. Dorothy Hukill, dismissing her as a "loyal soldier for House GOP leaders" who has sponsored "truly bad bills."
DAYTONA BEACH -- Jason Davis, the upstart county chair candidate snubbed in an earlier Tiger Bay Club debate that featured fellow candidates Carl Persis and Ted Doran, remained an after-thought Tuesday with a new debate between dist. 8 State Senate candidates Dorothy Hukill and Frank Bruno.
With the appearance of egg on its face after Davis finished second in the Aug. 14 primary to Persis to force a runoff in November, Tiger Bay turned to the biggest political heavyweights, Republican State Rep. Hukill and Democrat Bruno, Volusia's county chair.

TAMPA -- Robert Fortner, a GOP state committeeman from DeLand liked what he heard from Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in his acceptance speech at the convention.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Dustin Havens and Christopher Kelly are the cream of the crop in Tuesday's crowded field for Volusia County Judge, group 4.
If this were the general election, we'd have to pick one of them. But with five altogether in the race and no incumbent, unless one candidate gets 50 percent of the votes plus one vote, then the top two vote getters will move on to the general election in November. With that said, we are endorsing Havens and Kelly for your consideration.
DEBARY -- When there is an ailment that affects one part of the body the whole body is affected. I remember when I popped the posterior cruciate ligament in my knee while playing pick-up basketball, I could not push off with that leg anymore, and as a result, I stopped playing basketball because I was not longer as productive as when I had the full use of both of my legs. It is the same with excessive government spending.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- All three candidates running for the Volusia County Council dist. 3 seat have previously won elected office and tout their experience as reasons why each has an advantage over the other two. But it's the degrees of separation that each asks the voter to consider in defining that experience.
PORT ORANGE -- Their State Senate showdown isn't until November, but Republican Dorothy Hukill is chomping at the bit against her Democratic opponent, Frank Bruno: "We just won the West Volusia Regional Chamber straw ballot with over 65% of the vote! Thank you for all your support - onward to November!"
