Tornado warning issued for southern Volusia County affecting greater New Smyrna Beach, Port Orange, Edgewater and Samsula

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a tornado warning for greater New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange until 6:30 p.m.

A dangerous cell is moving south from Daytona to New Smyrna Beach, unincorporated Samsula and Edgewater. There is a lot of ligtning and some reports of hail associated with this thunderstorm.

She still needs to raise another $1,000 to cover personal expenses, but at least her trip is now covered.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- When Tia Winn-McDonald put out a plea on her Facebook page for help with fundraising for her upcoming trip to Las Vegas, stepped up to the plate with a story posted just after midnight Sunday on its website and then posted a link to the story on Facebook with reminders Tuesday and Wednesday.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Edward Jones Financial Advisor John Delavan of New Smyrna Beach recently received the Jack Phelan Blue Blazer Award for his outstanding business building skills and client service efforts over the past year. The award was named for the firm's former national sales manager, Jack Phelan.

Only 147 of the firm's more than 12,000 financial advisors received the Jack Phelan Blue Blazer Award.

New Smyrna Beach cops: TD Bank on State Road 44 robbed by man

Photos by Henry Frederick / The TD Bank in the Winn Dixie plaza on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach was robbed Saturday morning. Police said in a press release that they had bank surveillance photos of the robber attacked with the information, but there were none. These photos were taken Saturday night at the bank locale. A night commander with the NSBPD said she did not have access to any photos of the robber for media release since the incident occurred on the earlier shift.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The TD Bank, 1811 State Road 44, was robbed earlier today of an undisclosed amount of money by a lone robber, New Smyrna Beach police said.
