DAYTON A BEACH -- A Bug Tree Road man was found murdered in his residence Friday, Daytona Beach police said.

The body of Fred Johnson Sandlin, 70, was found in his apartment at 1601 Big Tree Road, No. 607, by his ex-wife who drove from Sanford to see him when he was a no-show in picking up his 9-year-old son, police said.

Police received a 9-1-1 call at 5:33 p.m. after the discovery. Police did not release the ex-wife's name.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmy Flynt released a brief statement with few details about the homicide, stating in part: "On today’s date the autopsy was performed and trauma were discovered to the body, which couldn’t have resulted from an accident. Manner and Cause of death is being withheld pending further investigation."

Flynt said the police incident report was not available without explaining why since the investigation is now in its second day.
