BuddyNSB cop Bruce Holcomb with BuddyNEW SMYRNA BEACH -- So what is the most exciting aspect of a police dog's job? Why that's "Catching people," New Smyrna Beach k-9 cop Bruce Holcomb answers. interviewed Holcomb Saturday night as a sidebar to our multi-media story presentation on the Edgewater P.D.'s new k-9 unit.

Holcomb's dog is a 67-pound Dutch shepherd named "Buddy." He doesn't get snacks and loves to drink water. But what he loves more than anything else is taking down the bad guy.

Buddy, with his lean, but muscular build, has something no bad guy would want in his worst nightmare: Razor-sharp incisors with a bite far worse than his bark.

The other NSBPD k-9 unit consits of Abe Diffin and his Belgian malinois, "Dux," pronounced Dukes.

Both canines are "dual process dogs," meaning they are trained to track humans and drugs.

Below is a training video that Holcomb and his dog took part in. Early on in the video, Buddy is the second dog unleashed and Holcomb is the one in full uniform getting him off the training perp.
