DAYTONA BEACH -- A 54-year-old Daytona Beach man is facing child pornography charges after sex crimes investigators discovered illegal images on his computer, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

The images were uncovered during a routine investigation into illegal on-line activity.

Joseph Diflumera, Jr. had been under investigation for some time after agents received information that he had been downloading child pornography from the Internet, Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.

The investigation resulted in the issuance of a search warrant that was executed Friday at Diflumera's home at 1429 Mollie Road. Multiple computers, videotapes, hard drives and computer disks were seized during the search, and a preliminary forensic exam revealed that they contained many images of child pornography.

Diflumera, who was home at the time of the search, was arrested on one count of possession of sexual performance by a child and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $2,500 bond. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

The investigation was conducted by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office's Sex Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Unit in conjunction with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Brevard-Volusia Child Exploitation Task Force.

The Task Force is a multi-agency force that pools resources from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to target individuals and groups that use the Internet, computers and other technology to perpetrate crimes against children in the Florida as well as across the nation and the world. Participating agencies include the Homeland Security Investigations within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Brevard and Volusia County Sheriff's offices.
