New Smyrna Beach Commissioner Jim Hathaway has two reasons to be happy

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- City Commissioner Jim Hathaway has two reasons to celebrate: First, he won the Aug. 14 primary for the dist. 3 seat on the Volusia County Council. Second, his son Spencer Stratton Hathaway, celebrated his birthday.
Why is the latter a big deal? The younger Hathaway is the father's campaign manager. So how old is he? He graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School in 2005.
There's no time to rest on their laurels, though, because the elder Hathaway still has to do battle with fellow New Smyrnan and former elected School Board member Deb Denys.
