Matt Clancy is tickled pink to see so many people flock to Clancy's Restaurant and Catina, as well as flooding myriad other eateries and shops.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Several thousand people descended on Flagler Avenue for Thursday's third annual NSB Shrimp and Seafood Festival and nobody had a bigger smile than Matt Clancy, of the family-owned Clancy's Restaurant and Cantina.

"Look at all of these people -- this is incredible,"Clancy said, as people rubbed elbows inside the popular Tex-Mex style eatery, with even more on the outside patio and on the front and east sides of the building.

NEWSMYRNA BEACH -- The reign of Steve Dennis as executive director/vice president of the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce came to an abrupt end today when he was dismissed after more than two decades at the helm of the organization that has seen declining enrollments in recent years.
The chamber put out a tersely-worded "press release" at 3:51 p.m. promoting the hiring of Samantha Bishop as interim head of the organization without explaining why Dennis was fired.

NSB's Planning Debacle

New Smyrna Beach Chief Planner Chad Lingenfelter, shown here in November holding up his right hand, joins former Developmental Services Director Mark Rakowski, in having his job eliminated. Lingenfelter was terminated Wednesday by City Manager Pam Brangaccio. Rakowski saw his post eliminated in November. Both are being blamed by the city manager for the planning debacle that has resulted in tens of millions of dollars in city projects halted, even though their terminations were announced as the result of budget cuts. NSBNEWS.net broke the story exclusively June 30 that final paperwork dating back five years on 29 proposed large and small land-use amendments affecting 72 community projects, including a Wal-Mart Supercenter on S.R. 44 near I-95 and a 112-room Hampton Inn & Suites on Flagler Avenue, had not been sent up to the Florida Department of Community Affairs for final approvals. One of the projects, the United Church of Christ, was slated for groundbreaking just days before the DCA said it would not consider any amendments until the city got its own house in order.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Embattled Chief Planner Chad Lingenfelter learned his fate just before 5 p.m. Wednesday when he met briefly with Personnel Director Carol Hargy: His job, which paid a base salary of $69,160 annually, was eliminated due to a budget cut.

Hargy confirmed that she met with Lingenfelter late Wednesday afternoon and he was informed of his fate.

My name is Sharon Luebbers and I am emailing you to ask you for your consideration and vote to become your full-time representative on the Volusia County School Board for District 3.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- If the race for the Volusia County Council District 3 seat were won on the basis of money alone, then Joie Alexander would be the clear winner with $30,320, Deborah Denys would be second at $16,114.25 and Ellen Darden at close third at $14,775.

But considering Alexander -- the incumbent at-large incumbent term-limiteed out of that race and trying to gain the Southeast Volusia seat held by outgoing Jack Hayman -- loaned her own campaign $10,000, the race would be tighter, if money were the only factor.

REPORTED FIRST BY NSBNEWS.net

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- With 197 votes cast Monday on the first day of early voting for the Aug. 24 primary elections, New Smyrna Beach had the second highest tally in Volusia County behind Deltona with 205.
