The New Smyrna Beach High School fight song resonated throughout the City Commission chambers Tuesday night as band members paid tribute to the city police department and city officials for their efforts in purchasing new band uniforms this year.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH - A labor agreement with Teamsters Local No. 385. on a new police contract that will run retroactive from Oct. 1 of this year,  through Sept, 30, 2013, with the city expecting to save almost $162,000 in one year, is expected to be voted on tonight by the City Commission.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH – Parking was at a premium on all side streets around Flagler Avenue Friday night. It was apparent there was one big party going on. Parents and their children, students, and all those in the holiday spirit, gravitated toward the beachside shopping venue for the annual "Light Up Flagler," which drew about 1,500 people.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Chamber of Commerce is planning an exciting street event in downtown New Smyrna Beach on Saturday: Jan. 22. the Home Show & Business Expo.

"(It) will bring together bring together area retail stores, businesses, local non-profit groups and our great citizens," said Samantha Bishop, executive vice president of the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce.

Barbara Arteta, age 63, of New Smyrna Beach, died Thursday, September 9, in Jesup, Georgia. Born in New York City, Mrs. Arteta came to this area in 1994 from Plattekill, New York.. During her working career, she was an executive administrator for a real estate company in Manhattan, the first female assembly line supervisor at the Ford Motor Plant at Mahwah, New Jersey, and a production scheduling manager at Star Expansion, Mountainville, New York, where she met her husband, Eugene.
