NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An 18-year-old Wisconsin visitor was stung on the hand Monday by a 1-foot stingray while fishing with his father at the Smyrna Dunes Park, but the bite was not serious, the Volusia County Beach Patrol said.
OAK HILL -- The City Commission will discuss the possibility of establishing a budget task force, look at drafting a public records policy and consider an ordinance regulating yard sales.
The commission is also expected to go over specific terms for salary levels for the position of police chief with the recent elevation of Acting Police Chief Diane Young to permanent police chief.

Among the local dignitaries he recognized were Canal Street merchants Debbie Peterson and Cindy Jones, who spearheaded the event to encourage shoppers to consider historic Canal Street for bargains.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The rain stropped just in time Friday night as Santa Claus prepared to flick the switch lighting the Christmas tree on Canal Street kicking off the holiday season.
Dr. Bill Epps, age 83, of New Smyrna Beach, died Sunday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange. Born in Sanford, Dr. Epps was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy, Stetson University, and Emory University Dental School. He practiced dentistry in both Sanford and Edgewater.
